We release a new snowman collection each year and this year the theme is winter sports. There are skiing and skating snowmen along with family designs, trees and other objects to go with them. Most of the designs are applique and we used ultra suede as our fabric. Since we have been creating a lot of garments recently with our designs we decided to create two different snowmen garments, a denim shirt and a hooded sweatshirt. We decided to revisit the collection with Victorian Monogram 2.  The collection uses the same colours and same type of flower, but everything else is different. If you have the original collection the first thing you will notice is that the letters are larger!  Each letter comes in two different sizes, the small size is for the 5″x7″ hoop and the larger letter is for jumbo hoops. The larger size of the letters allows you to fill a whole pillow with only one letter.  The second aspect of the designs in this collection is instead of the flowers forming a square shape, they wrap around the letter for a more delicate look.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eLike Victorian Monogram this collection comes with frames and border designs so that you can create endless arrangements. After discussing a wide range of topics and choices we decided on creating a tile scene for the Ascension with Jesus rising to heaven. There are hundreds of reference paintings for the Ascension and instead of showing a complete scene with the apostles, we decided to show only Jesus rising through clouds. The reason for this was that we wanted to add a lot of detail to Jesus and to do this we wanted to make him as large as possible. They were a lot of fun to design and we used a few different techniques and color combinations. We created a few with the traditional blue colours and then for fun we threw in golden and fuscia versions as well. All of the large peacocks have one thing in common, they use applique. we actually used metallic appliques, this made a huge difference in the WOW factor of the designs. You can use any type of shiny fabric for the applique. If the fabric you choose is thin simply back it with a fusible interfacing to make it more stable. To go along with the large peacocks I am including lots of feathers and smaller motif’s so you can further embellish any project! We created three different types of projects for this collection. First we designed a group of jumbo applique dragonflies. We created the 10 different dragonflies using a kaleidoscope of colors; each dragonfly is digitized differently for a unique look. The jumbo applique designs are for the 6″x10″ and 7″x12″ hoop. We then created 12, 5″x7″ stitched dragonflies. There are also 4 large scenes as well as over a dozen complimentary design elements. The last of the designs we created were large swirls. You are probably wondering why all of the different designs and sizes? We created a landscape quilt using all of the different dragonflies, background elements and swirls. The project came out great and if you have never created a landscape quilt before, this is a great way to try it. The collection consists of three different themes with over a dozen designs in each theme. The first theme is cardinals perched on branches of holly berries. The project we created for this theme is a classic denim shirt with two large embroideries on the front of the Cardinal designs. Then we embellished the shirt with crystals to add some glitter! The second theme is a Gingerbread man and house. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"product-description\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eWe created the Gingerbread man, a star, bell and gingerbread house as applique designs and they are stylized to look great on garments. Then we created gold swirls with candy, stars, and Christmas lights for more design choices. We embroidered this group of designs on a denim shirt. The third theme is Santa and his reindeer. This design lines up perfectly across a denim shirt as you can see on our sample. This theme also includes small holly leaves and poinsettias that could be added to the collar or sleeve. We include a master color list and what types of fabric you will need to complete the project. As far as tile scenes go, this one has among the least amount of blocks and uses quite a few appliques so it is not that difficult to complete. I decided to stipple the whole background with three different layers of thread. This creates stability for the fabric as well as a great shimmering sky when using metallic thread. When digitizing the dragon, I began with a base fabric applique. This keeps the stitch count down and gives the dragon a deep, saturated colour base. Now, all of the additional hand done layers of colours for shading and scales will really pop! I used another piece of stone coloured batik as applique base for the mountain and even more hand worked, free form stitches to texturize it with layers of color. The end result of all this work is stunning! The border consists of ten different segments to surround the dragon as a framed work of art. We did it tone on tone to simulate a carved effect when viewed from a distance. Our artist Ginny painted this scene and the end result was stunning. When I received the painting I was overwhelmed with the amount of work that it would entail. I decided to create a 9-block tile scene. The average embroidery design has around 100 segments. My tile scenes usually have between 2,000 and 4,000. So as you can see a lot of work went into this design. We started with 10 jumbo realistic roosters in two different sizes each. Once each block is finished they are stitched together to form a beautiful corner. We don't add the rooster to the quilt until the end. Steve always tells everyone that the hardest designs to digitize are always the designs that resemble old-fashioned hand embroidery.
